Manchester United keeper Andre Onana was left humbled after attempting to throw off Arsenal players with some bizarre antics in his side's friendly penalty shootout in the US.

The Red Devils lost 2-1 against the Gunners in normal time after Rasmus Hojlund's early opener was cancelled out by Gabriel Jesus - with Gabriel Martinelli netting a late winner.

However, even though Arsenal won the game, the two sides still played out a shootout for the entertainment of the watching crowd - and Onana attempted some tricks in a bid to distract the Arsenal players.

With Vieira stepping up first for the Gunners, Onana opted to stand to the far left of the goal and then pointed to his right - gesturing to the midfielder to shoot in that direction.

Onana then dived to his right, but Vieira ignored the Cameroonian international and put his spot-kick in the opposite corner.

Incredibly, Onana then attempted the same antics for Arsenal's final penalty as Gabriel Magalhaes stepped up.

The Man United shot stopper again stood to his left and pointed to his right, but he was left with egg on his face as Gabriel slotted into the exact corner Onana pointed to - though the keeper dived to his left on this occasion.

Onana had earlier saved Kai Havertz's spot kick without any gestures but Gabriel appeared to take issue with the keeper's behaviour - shushing the player after dispatching his effort.

United still managed to win the shootout 4-3, with Jadon Sancho scoring the winning kick - a small consolation after losing the game.

That wasn't the only bizarre behaviour from Onana, who received a back pass from a defender during the game with Gabriel Jesus rushing towards him - switching the ball to his other foot to fool the Brazilian just yards from his goalline in a risky passage of play.

Onana came in for plenty of stick in his first season at United after making a few howlers following his £47m move from Inter Milan.

He conceded 58 goals overall in the Premier League, keeping nine clean sheets and 149 saves as United went on to finish eighth.

Onana said this season was about getting "revenge" and proving his doubters wrong, saying: "Mistakes are part of life. Who doesn’t make mistakes? I am old enough to accept this kind of responsibility.

"This club is one of the biggest in the world and you need a lot of personality and character to play here and that is what you have to show on the pitch."
