Dublin Zoo is giving families the chance to 'create unforgettable memories that will last a lifetime' this summer by offering free tickets to grandparents for a limited time only.

The capital's zoo is inviting grandparents to avail of a ‘Grandparent Goes Free’ offer, which is valid from Monday (July 22) to Friday (July 26) next week.

Grannies and grandads can avail of the complimentary adult ticket when a full-paying adult or child’s ticket is purchased at the gate.

To make their visit even more memorable, guests can also avail of a special coffee and sweet treat offer for €6 at the Meerkat Restaurant, Picnic Bench or Starbucks.

A Dublin Zoo spokesperson said: "Celebrate grandparents and all they do by spending some quality time together at Dublin Zoo.

"There’s something for every generation at the Zoo, so take the opportunity to create magical moments, together."

Meanwhile, Dublin Zoo is inviting visitors to travel back in time for Dino Discovery Weekend, taking place this Saturday and Sunday from 11.30am to 4.30pm.

With interactive activities for explorers of all ages, including baby dinosaur petting zoo and dinosaur fossil clay making, visitors are sure to have a dino-mite time.

From 11.30am on the Great Lawn both days, visitors will have a chance to learn about their favourite dinosaur species while getting close enough to pet them, while there will also be the chance to create your very own dinosaur fossil to take home.

Visitors will be able to watch in awe as dinosaur eggs hatch on the Great Lawn, while guests will also be able to visit the Farmhouse from 11.30am and have your face painted as your favourite dinosaur.

Dublin Zoo is open seven days and the zoo has extended its summer opening hours to 7pm. To celebrate the later opening, all visitors who purchase a single ticket at the Dublin Zoo gate after 4pm each day will receive a 50 per cent discount.
