Dundalk have agreed a deal with Galway United for midfielder Aodh Dervin. And the Tribesmen could boost their goalkeeper ranks with a swoop for Longford Town’s Jack Brady.

Galway’s Leo Gaxha is also on Athlone Town’s radar as the Tribesmen make room in their squad - and budget - for new signing Greg Cunningham, the Ireland defender. Dervin, 24, played for Longford Town and Shelbourne before joining Galway last summer, and he has made 16 appearances this season.

Galway United boss John Caulfield today confirmed the club had accepted an offer for a player from Dundalk, but he did not name the player in question. “It’s not just as simple as signing Greg Cunningham. There is money and budgets involved,” said Caulfield on Wednesday.

“We have to move players on and work out how we’re going to do that. We accepted an offer last night from Dundalk and we accepted another offer from Athlone.

“We’ve had to work out financially how we can work it out because our budgets are so strict. We had to weigh up how we were going to (sign Cunningham).”

Caulfield added: “Outside of football and training, the last seven days have been incredibly hectic and challenging.

“Greg has come in and a few lads have moved on. Everything is falling into place.”
