Paul Mescal has been tipped to star in the next instalment as James Bond - either as 007 or potentially a villain. All eyes are on the Kildare native after the hotly-anticipated Gladiator II trailer dropped just days ago.

Now, rumours are circulating about the star’s next big project, with bookies Casino.com backing Mescal to play a role in the new James Bond movie as Bond himself at 3/1 or a villain at 7/2 or appear as Sir Paul McCartney in the Beatles biopic at 4/6. There is an outside chance the Normal People star features as the next Spider-Man at 10/1.

Casinos.com showbiz journalist and oddsmaker James Leyfield commented, “One role that has been heavily rumoured in recent months is that Mescal could line up in Same Mendes' upcoming The Beatles biopic. Mescal has been linked to the role of the Hey Jude hitmakers' frontman Sir Paul McCartney, and is just 4/6 to take on the coveted part, while it's evens (1/1) he appears in a biopic next.

“It comes after The InSneider claimed Mescal could join the project alongside Harris Dickinson (John Lennon), Charlie Rowe (George Harrison), and Barry Keoghan (Sir Ringo Starr).

“Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been heavily rumoured to be taking up the role as the next James Bond, but nothing has been confirmed yet. He is just 3/1 to be the next 007, and he is said to have been in talks for the part.

“In December, it was reported in The Sun newspaper that Mescal had been in discussions for the coveted role, and several stars have backed him to follow in Daniel Craig's footsteps.

“Last year, Ana de Armas, who played Paloma in Bond's last outing, 2021's No Time to Die, which was Craig's final foray as the main character, admitted she would love to see Mescal as 007. While Mescal is 2/1 to appear in a big action movie next, he is just 7/2 to take part in a superhero film, and it is 5/1 he lands the part of a Marvel character, excluding Wolverine (11/2) and Spider-Man (10/1).

“It comes as the star was previously linked to the part of The Fantastic Four's Johnny Storm, aka The Human Torch, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

Last year, Mescal’s All of Us Strangers co-star Andrew Scott, who starred in a James Bond’s Spectre in 2015, said he could see his fellow Irish actor playing the famous spy.

"He'd probably be a great James Bond," Scott told Variety at the time. The Dublin actor added with a smile: "I want to see him in Gladiator first."
