Coolock protest dispersed by dozens of gardai in major show of force
Dozens of officers - including members of the Public Order Unit wearing helmets and carrying shields - began an operation to clear the site on the Malahide Road in north Dublin at around 8.30pm.
Gardai have tonight cleared the Coolock protest site - in a major show of force.
Dozens of officers - including members of the Public Order Unit wearing helmets and carrying shields - began an operation to clear the site on the Malahide Road in north Dublin at around 8.30pm.
Around 150 protestors were at the site of the former Crown Paints factory when the operation began.
Gardai formed a line across the road and pushed the protesters back around 400 metres.
Officers also corralled people on streets off the main road in the operation.
By 9pm the road was reopened to traffic and only a handful of people were at the protest site.
There were no reports of any arrests or injuries.
There will still a significant Garda presence in the area later tonight.
