A 40-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday night after taking out a pistol and firing shots into the air at a petrol station on the road between Morphou and the village of Kapouti on Tuesday night.

The shots were fired between 6.30pm and 7.30pm, with police finding that the nine-millimetre pistol the man used had been illegally imported into the north and that the man thus did not have the requisite licence to possess such a firearm.

The man was arrested, the gun was seized as evidence, and the police’s investigation into the matter is ongoing.
