Three people have been arrested and a fourth is being sought on suspicion of illegally issuing residency permits for domestic workers, police said on Friday.
The three, two of whom have been remanded, and another due in court on Friday, are facing charges of conspiracy to commit a felony, preparation and circulation of forged documents, extortion, threats and offences against the Aliens and Immigration Law.
On Thursday during a coordinated police operation between Limassol and Nicosia CID and officers from the immigration service, a 39-year-old Greek Cypriot woman and two foreign men, aged 46 and 53, were arrested. A fourth is being sought.
The woman and the younger man were remanded on Thursday by the Nicosia district court for five days. The 53-year-old is expected to be remanded on Friday.
Police said that from investigations so far, the three suspects were involved in at least three cases of fraudulent residence permits being issued for domestic workers.
Two of the domestic workers left Cyprus and went to another European country, assisted by the suspects, police said, adding that they have not ruled out other cases the suspects may be involved in.
Investigations are continuing.
