The remand order against a woman accused of stabbing her husband to death with a kitchen knife was renewed on Sunday for a further four days.
Ukrainian Vitaly Shostak, 62, was found dead in his Limassol apartment on December 27 after reportedly having an argument with his 63-year-old wife.
He was stabbed in the chest with a kitchen knife, while the suspect continues to insist that the wound was self inflicted.
The woman had reportedly told the police that as it was her birthday on the day of the incident, they were opening gifts sent by their son.
Then, she said, at some point, her husband went to the kitchen and returned to the living room with the knife lodged in his chest. She said he then collapsed, and she removed the knife, placed it next to him, and called the police.
She did, however, admit that there had been an argument between them shortly before he died, and that they had both been drinking alcohol.
According to state pathologist Nikolas Charalambous, who carried out the autopsy last Sunday, Shostak’s death was caused by internal bleeding caused by a cutting instrument. He found no signs of a previous struggle.
Police told the court they are investigating a case of premeditated murder against the wife and requested her remand for a further four days.
