End summer with a bang

Since its inception in 2008, the Uprising festival has become a staple event to say goodbye to summer. This year's 17th edition will once again take place at the Zlaté Piesky lakes on the outskirts of Bratislava this weekend, August 30-31. Although originally targeting reggae fans, its scope has widened, bringing ska, Latino, drum and bass, dub and more genres. Grab your tickets here.

Celebration of movement

This weekend, the city of Košice will host the 7th edition of Move Fest, a festival of contemporary dance, new circus and physical theatre. This year's edition theme is abandonment, meaning letting go of what is unnecessary, unbinding ourselves, leaving behind what is no longer of use and what is familiar. In other words, open up to new opportunities. The programme includes morning yoga, dance karaoke, a contemporary dance workshop, and performances among other things. Find out more here.

MISCELLANEOUS FUN

Dragons? Dragons!

On the last day of August, Ľupča Castle in central Slovakia will open its gates to visitors, small and big alike, for another edition of the Dračie Dni (Dragon days) fairy tale festival, this time dedicated to the birthday of dragon Arnošt who, together with princess Ivalka, need help saving the kingdom. The event is interactive, meaning visitors will take part in the programme. Although mainly a children's event, it also takes parents into account. Dragons will be back on August 31 from 10:00 and 15:00, you'll need a ticket. Find out more about Dračie Dni here.

A kingdom in need

After a successful first edition, Smolenice Castle near Trnava will once again host the two-day Zakliate Kráľovstvo (Cursed Kingdom) fairy-tale event full of games, challenges and fun. Set out on a fairy-tale path to meet colourful characters, let yourself be amazed by a magician, don your favourite costume and more at the picturesque castle. Find out more here.
