Bratislava Airport has busiest June on record
The airport has added additional parking in response
M. R. Štefánik Airport in Bratislava served more than 246,000 passengers in June this year, which is a historical record for the airport. The number of passengers increased by 14 percent year-on-year. In the first half of 2024, the airport served more than 733,000 people.
"Bratislava Airport has only hit 200,000 passengers seven times since it was established in 1951," said Novota. "This June we have also surpassed the passenger numbers from the strongest pre-COVID years, namely the record-breaking Junes of 2018 and 2019. We have even achieved an increase of almost 30,000 passengers compared to last June."
The record June figures were mainly due to numerous scheduled and charter flights from Bratislava to Antalya in Turkey, Hurghada in Egypt and Larnaca in Cyprus. The number of flights to these destinations increased by more than 20 percent year-on-year.
The airport also reached a record in the number of flights. During June, there were 3,297 aircraft movements, which is 9 percent more than last June. Novota pointed out that the number of departures and arrivals in June of this year was the highest since the airport’s inception.
Additional parking
In response the airport, also known by the IATA designation BTS, is expanding its parking capacity. Located 1.5 kilometres from the terminal, car park P3, brings online an additional 338 parking spaces. Passengers will be shuttles between the new car park to the terminal by a complimentary minibus.
"During the summer we offer passengers the opportunity to park at the P3 car park, which is located three minutes' drive from the airport. We will provide a shuttle service for the visitors to the airport," said Dušan Novota, CEO of the Bratislava Airport.
After parking a car in the P3 car park, passengers can contact the driver of the eight-seat minibus at the number +421 903 414 426. The driver will pick up them and their luggage from the car park and then take them directly to the departure hall. Upon arrival, the minibus will take them back to the car park. Passengers can also book parking spaces in all three car parks of the airport online via the airport's website.
There are now three car parks at the airport. P1 offers 106 parking spaces and is used for short-term parking during the day and allows people to load or unload for free within 15 minutes. It also provides one hour of free parking for disabled people. P2 offers 670 parking spaces for long term car parking.
P3, the newest car park, is the most affordable due to its distance from the terminal. This brings the total capacity of the airport’s public car parks to 1,114 spaces.
