A man was arrested by the police after he assaulted an officer at the Sliema police station, the police said Saturday.

The man, aged 39, entered the police station on Friday evening as officers were speaking to a relative of his in connection with a dangerous driving incident.

The man raised his voice and slammed the perspex, and the police said he maintained his aggressive attitude even after he was told to calm down.

The man at one point pushed an officer against the wall. Other officers intervened to assist their colleague, who suffered a fractured arm. Two other officers were also hurt.

The man was arrested and will be charged in court.

Magistrate Antoine Mifsud Bonnici is leading an inquiry.
