A "tower of trash" was put up in front of the Valletta main gate, urging passersby to stop littering, and report illegal dumping of trash by calling 1718.
Government took to Facebook to post two photos showing a large, transparent box, visibly showing trash bags with trash inside, with Xummiemu, the public cleanliness mascot, printed on the box.
"Do you imagine yourself passing by this pile of illegal waste as you head towards the capital city?" the post read.
It said that an average of 830kg of illegal waste is collected daily from each locality in Malta.
"Don't litter. Report it. Call 1718 or download the 'Clean and Upkeep' app," the post read.
The government's post tagged the Public Cleansing, and Clean Malta - Cleansing and Maintenance Division.
