Norma Saliba has moved from a government post to one with the Labour Party, separate statements issued by the government and the PL said within a few minutes from each other.
The government was the first to announce that Saliba resigned from her post as chief executive officer of the Centre of the Maltese Language.
Less than an hour later, a Labour Party statement said that she had been appointed PL head of communications.
Saliba recently contested for the post of president of the Labour Party, losing to Alex Sciberras.
She was the first to occupy the role of head of the Centre for Maltese Language when the centre was set up last year.
The government had been harshly criticised for choosing her, as Maltese language organisations questioned her qualifications. She has now quit the post.
In its statement, the Labour Party said that Saliba has 25 years of experience in the media, having also served as head of news at PBS.
She was also, for a time, president of the Institute of Maltese Journalists.
At the Labour Party, she replaces Ronald Vassallo, who resigned two months ago.
