The Minister for Justice and Reform of the Construction Sector, Jonathan Attard, on Friday opened the Malta Property Show – Expo, organized by the Malta Developers Association and the Check Your Traders.

In his introduction, Attard said that this event continues to confirm the resilience, strength and potential of the property market whilst serving as an opportunity to promote practices that give priority to innovation, functionality and sustainability.

Attard spoke of the social importance of the property market and the construction sector and how these sectors are interconnected with the rest of the economy. “I believe that everyone recognizes that the property market and the construction sector as two sectors which interconnect with others, such as the social aspect and the quality of life,” he said.

The Minister made reference to the bill that was approved in the second reading last Monday which will lead to the establishment of a Property Market Agency with the ultimate goal of providing peace of mind that Malta has licensed people who can add value to the process of property transactions.

Attard spoke of the ongoing work to continue updating regulations in connection with the issuing of licences to builders and contractors. He recognized the commitment of the Authority of Health and Safety on the Workplace and that of the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) so that, above all, the collaboration between them improves with the aim of increasing the efficiency in the safeguarding of the safety of workers and others who may be affected by construction works.

“The government is committed to support and facilitate the sustainable development in these industries and make sure that it continues to attract investment, create jobs and contribute economically. Everyone must be open to changes and reforms that build on gained success, embrace new technology and promote the highest standards of quality and sustainability,” Attard concluded.
