Center-left candidate Emilia Romagna governor Michele de Pascale is in the lead with 56.8%, while the center-right candidate Elena Ugolini has 39.4% according to the first projection by Opinio Italia for Rai state broadcaster.
    The centre left looks set to retain the northern Italian region, which along with Tuscany has never been won by the centre right.
