St Peter's Basilica's digital twin unveiled
To provide virtual access to all
The Vatican on Monday presented new
Artificial Intelligence-enabled services that will provide
virtual access to St Peter's Basilica ahead of the Jubilee Holy
Year
The digital replica going online was made by using 400,000
high-resolution digital photographs, taken with drones, as well
as with cameras.
Two on-site exhibits will also be available to virtual visitors,
granting them a unique interactive experience.
"The Vatican Basilica's digital twin will enable everybody to
cross the Holy Door, including the poor who will not be able to
come to Rome", said Father Francesco Occhetta, secretary of the
Fondazione Fratelli Tutti (Foundation Brothers All), which
operates with the Fabric of St. Peter, an institution
responsible for the conservation and maintenance of the
basilica.
