Italian skiing star Sofia Goggia said Friday that she would like to make a comeback in mid-December for the Beaver Creek World Cup after fractures to her right tibia and tibial malleolus last January 31.
"I have to say this injury was extremely hard on many fronts - physically, mentally and emotionally.
"I suffered a lot, especially during the first months.
"For two months, I thought I was dead", Goggia said during the Media Day organized by winter sports federation FISI at the Armani Theatre in Milan.
The Italian alpine skier, who became the first Italian to win a downhill Olympic gold on her Olympic debut in 2018, went on to say that post-surgery recovery had gone "possibly even better than expected".
"I will soon be putting my skis back on", Goggia said, explaining she hopes her campaign will kick off with the first FIS World Cup speed events in Beaver Creek.
