NFL giants snap up rising GAA star after first season Stateside
The rumour mill had it that Charlie Smyth was wanted by other NFL sides but he is staying put after an encouraging first term
Down's Charlie Smyth has committed to another two years with the NFL's New Orleans Saints, according to reports.
Smyth, 23, joined the Saints in March after standing out at the NFL Combine at the end of his participation in the International Pathway Programme.
The former Down netminder subsequently produced the match-winning field goal in the Saints' pre-season victory over the Arizona Cardinals but was selected for the practice squad for this campaign, where he provided cover for starting kicker Blake Grupe.
