Two Garda praised for bringing

Two Gardaí have received heaps of praise for assisting an elderly couple in need of their prescriptions during the heavy snow in county Limerick.

Garda John Clifford, based in Murroe, Limerick, was alerted to a couple living in the Reenavanna Hills who required some assistance in getting their prescriptions. Unfortunately, the heavy snow made the road impassable by car, but one Garda wasn’t giving up.

Quick thinking Garda John Clifford, who is based in Murroe, made contact with his colleague Garda Mike Fitzgerald in the nearby village of Doon, who happened to have a tractor to hand - and who also played county for Limerick in the 2000s.

The pair jumped into action, with Garda Clifford collecting the Favier’s prescription, while the off duty Garda Fitzgerald got the tractor read before the pair took off into the hills with the medication.

And as it turned out, Mr. Favier and Garda Clifford, who are both from Kerry, happened to be related to Kerry Football All-Star, Gavin White.

A post on social media highlighting the pair’s efforts read: “Garda John Clifford, based in Murroe, Co. Limerick heard locally this morning that a couple living up in the Reenavanna Hills required assistance.

“The snow has well set in these parts, making the road impassable to most and certainly to all by car, but Mr. and Mrs Favier needed their prescriptions today.

“In trying to figure out a solution, Garda Clifford remembered that a Garda colleague based in the nearby village, Doon had a fine red tractor so he gave him a quick buzz about the Favier’s predicament.

The two Garda hopped into the red tractor to assist the couple

“You see, Garda Mike Fitzgerald played county for Limerick during the late 2000s so he knows all about the value of team work.

“Without hesitation, Garda Clifford agreed to tip over to Doon to collect the medication in the pharmacy while Garda Fitzgerald, who was off-duty today, got the tractor’s engine going. The pair of them took off up the hills in the tractor and dropped off the prescriptions as needed.

“Sure it turns out it’s a fierce small world - both Mr. Favier and Garda Clifford hail from Kerry and isn’t Mr. Favier a relative of Kerry Football All-Star, Gavin White whose photo has pride of place in the Favier's home.

“Weather warnings may seem like a nuisance to those that poor conditions don’t adversely affect, but it is instances like these that highlight their importance.”
