Limerick friends build 'tallest snowman in Ireland' during snow storm and name him Big Bill
When the group of friends saw the severe weather forecast from Met Eireann, they hatched a plan to build a mammoth snowman - and they're pretty sure he's the biggest in Ireland
Meet Big Bill – standing at a whopping 23 foot, he's likely the tallest snowman in Ireland. A group of friends from Elton in Limerick built this impressive, towering snowman amidst Sunday's Status Orange snow storms.
The five friends revealed that as soon as Met Éireann issued the severe weather warning, they decided to craft an enormous snowman. UCC student Servatius Antonius, 28, and his brother Paulus, 24, along with three pals, set out to construct the colossal figure, aiming to make it large enough to sport a traffic cone for a nose.
Servatius, a student teacher currently on work placement at Scoil Mhuire girls' school in Cork city, expressed the group's delight at surpassing their previous record for building giant snowmen. The substantial snowman, affectionately dubbed Big Bill, towers over the 18ft 'Andre' that the brothers created during the 2018 Beast from the East.

"When we saw Met Éireann forecasting the snow we said 'Will we do another snowman?'" Servatius told Cork Beo. "We got a few people from the village together and a ladder and started to build. The snow was just getting worse through the day so we were able to do huge big balls of snow... a few kids from the village helped out too, it was great fun.
"We definitely wanted to use the traffic cone as a nose and a barrel for the hat, and we used turf for buttons and coal for the eyes," he added.
History teacher Servatius shared their nifty trick for sizing up Big Bill's towering 23-foot stature, explaining they first measured his ladder and then used a tape measure for the rest of the snowman while perched atop of it. With Elton still blanketed in snow, the colossal snowman hasn't budged an inch.
"We've no power and my internet is bad, and I can't get to school," said Servatius, who remains uncertain if he'll make it to school on Tuesday.
"I've never seen snow like this, even in 2018 the snow wasn't as big as this, it felt like even as we were building the snowman there was just so much snow coming down around us, which was good for us as we didn't have to go far for more snow!
"The pictures don't do it justice, it is much bigger in person, and he's even taller because we are even standing on a foot of snow in the photos."
