A woman died yesterday evening after a horror crash in Co Kilkenny.

Gardai and emergency services attended the two-vehicle collision in Slieverue, which occurred on the N25 at Luffany at approximately 5.50pm on Friday evening, January 3.

A woman aged in her 70s, who was driving one of the cars, suffered fatal injuries in the crash and she was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her body has been removed to the University Hospital Waterford mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is due to take place in due course.

The driver of the other car, a male aged in his 30s, and a passenger, a female aged in her 20s, were taken to the same hospital though their injuries are not understood to be life-threatening.

The N25 road remains closed this morning between the Luffany Roundabout and Glenmore Roundabout to allow for a full technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions have been put in place for motorists.

Gardai have now issued an appeal for witnesses, particularly those who may have been travelling on the N25 between the Luffany Roundabout, Slieverue and Glenmore between the hours of 5.30pm and 6.15pm, to make contact with authorities.

They have also encouraged anyone who may have dashcam footage of the area around the time of the collision to make this available to gardai.

A spokesperson for An Garda Siochana told The Irish Mirror: "Anyone with any information is asked to contact Waterford Garda Station on 051 305 300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."
