Ex-RTE star Ryan Tubridy says he 'hit the jackpot' as he celebrates major milestone
Ryan reflected on his first year at the helm of his breakfast radio show in the UK
Ryan Tubridy has shared a heartfelt tribute to his Virgin Radio colleagues – as he celebrates a major milestone at the station.
It has been one year since the Dubliner took the helm of his new breakfast radio show in the UK, which also simultaneously broadcasts on Dublin’s Q102.
Reflecting over this past year, Tubridy said he “hit the jackpot” with his new job.

Taking to Instagram, he shared: "A year ago today, I started a new job in a new station in a new city! From the moment I walked through the door at Virgin Radio, I was welcomed in the warmest way by a beautiful bunch of people who love doing what they do for a living.
"I’ve made new friends, been to places I never expected to go and interviewed people I always wanted to meet. When a job doesn’t feel like work, you’ve hit the jackpot! Thank you to all my colleagues both in Virgin and in Q102 in Dublin (who have been equally lovely) and thank you to all the listeners for joining our club.
"Here’s to another year of loving life and always erring on the side of joy!"
It comes after we revealed Dublin’s Q102 bosses were “delighted” with his 34,000 listeners.
According to the latest Joint National Listenership Research, we can reveal the father-of-two - who was once the highest paid presenter at RTE - is broadcasting to just 34,000 Irish listeners daily - a drop of 4,000 compared to his last quarter at the Dublin station.
But a spokesman for Wireless, which own stations including Q102, said at the time: “We work on year on year comparisons as industry standard best practice.
“While we can't compare show timeblocks year on year currently, owing to timeblock duration differences, we are delighted that Q102 has added 18,000 new weekly listeners since last year, clearly driven by the addition of Ryan Tubridy to our daily schedule.”
Tubridy recently admitted he knows he can be “an insufferable pain in the hoop at times”.
“The Late Late Show was tough because you had 12-15 minutes [to interview guests]. Now I am doing a books podcast and I get these guests that I interviewed on The Late Late Show for 12-15 minutes and it was torture because it’s a construct,” he said.
“I enjoyed the job, but now that I have them for the hour it’s great and you can get to know them and you have a proper conversation and see who the real person is. That is very liberating,” he told Mark Moriarty on his podcast Roasted with Mark Moriarty earlier this week.
