Wayne Rooney has issued a statement on Instagram after a video of him appearing to let a woman into his apartment went viral on social media.
Rooney is currently living in Devon, away from his wife Coleen and children, while he manages Plymouth Argyle. The 39-year-old has felt the need to respond after a video emerged of him, wearing a baseball cap and tracksuit, apparently opening the door to his flat while accompanied by a woman.
He wrote on Instagram: "I am aware of a video circulating online. The video shows a man and woman looking around my apartment. The couple kindly gave me a lift home and were in there at the same time as my son, who was visiting.

"Footage is from last summer. It is annoying that at least one online newspaper has chosen to edit the footage to make it appear as though a woman entered the apartment on her own. That is simply not true."
The video in question - which has been viewed over 2 million times - shows Rooney opening his apartment door for a woman. He is then seen inside his spacious loft apartment with the television on.
Rooney is living in a large apartment in Plymouth while away from Coleen and his children, who have stayed living in the family home. He took the Argyle job in May and has endured a difficult time in Devon, having picked up just five wins from 25 matches so far.
Plymouth are bottom of the Championship and there have been calls for Rooney to be sacked following their 2-0 defeat by Oxford on Sunday.
"I think you have to look at every possible outcome. I think that's normal with the results we are going through," Rooney said on Sunday when asked if he would consider his position.
"You have to feel you can turn it around, have you got the players to turn it around. Can I turn it around? Can the coaches turn it around? That's all stuff we really have to look at."
