This man has been charged with murdering an inmate in an Irish jail earlier this year.

The Irish Mirror has learned that Liam O’Neill, 30, is alleged to have murdered an inmate in Dublin’s Cloverhill Prison.

The charge relates to the death of prisoner Martin Salinger, 43, who died after an incident in a cell of the remand prison in the west of the city on October 5 this year.

Mr O’Neill, with a last address at Garrison Mews, Loughlinstown, Co Dublin, first appeared in court last Thursday.

He has also been charged with assaulting another named prisoner causing him harm.

He was remanded in custody last Thursday and made a further appearance via video at Cloverhill district court on Wednesday morning, where he was further remanded to January 15.

Mr Salinger, who was from west Dublin but had a last address in Bettystown, Co Meath, was on remand in the prison when he died.

He had been charged over a gun and drug seizure in August. A handgun and €20,000 worth of cannabis were recovered by the Dublin Crime Response Team and the Garda Armed Support Unit, at a property in Ballyfermot, south west Dublin.
