Ireland weather: Definitive white Christmas verdict delivered as 'wintry' showers arrive
While any hopes of a white Christmas have been dashed, there is a chance of wintry showers this weekend ahead of Christmas week
Temperatures will drop to 0C on Wednesday night before wintry showers set in for a “cold and blustery” weekend.
Any hopes of a white Christmas appear to have been dashed at this stage, as the ever-reliable Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather has said the weather will turn much milder in the build up to Christmas, after a bout of rain over the coming days.
Although there will be some showers and blustery winds, there is a chance of some wintry showers at the weekend before Christmas.

“[Wind] will ease through Wednesday and into Thursday, but picking up again for the weekend, some very strong winds in parts of the country at the weekend,” Alan O'Reilly posted in a video on his popular X page.
“Nothing to severe but still very windy. Rain wise it will be very wet in parts of the south, southeast especially Wednesday, you can see heavy rain just catching the south and southeast, and parts of the east. Over 5mm for many parts of the country, but over 10mm possible along that south coast and south east coast. Then on Thursday a risk of some wintry showers in some northern parts of the country but some good bright spells.
“Friday will see a band of rain there moving down across the country, and some showers then on Saturday and Sunday. From Thursday it will feel much, much cooler. A bit of a rollercoaster of temperatures, turning much cooler from Thursday and for a few days, but then as we head into the build up for Christmas, it will turn much milder for Christmas Eve especially and Christmas Day.”
“Chances of a white Christmas are gone, but we could see some wintry showers at the weekend before Christmas at least.”
