Ireland weather: High winds and heavy rainfall to batter country again as menacing system approaches
An area of low pressure is on course to reach the country next week, bringing gusts of up to 100kph and torrential rainfall
Ireland looks set to be battered by high winds and heavy rainfall again next week, as a menacing area of low pressure appears to be heading for the country.
The coming days are likely to be mild with a few bright spells and patches of rain in places. However, that’s expected to change towards the end of next week, according to the latest weather models.
Gusts of over 100kph are predicted in some parts by next Thursday, accompanied by heavy rainfall across the country.

Alan O’Reilly, the expert behind the popular Carlow Weather account on social media, said there was a risk of “some bad weather” next week that could put an end to the current mild conditions.
“Some nice boring weather the last few days and for another few days too, turning milder and a little showery from Sunday,” he said.
“The first real sign of a risk of some bad weather is a week away, with a risk of a low system this day next week but very uncertain yet.”
He shared charts on social media showing peak gusts of over 100kph on the east and southeast coast by 12pm next Thursday, as well as rainfall of up to 10mm per hour in parts of the country around 6am that morning.
Meanwhile, Met Éireann has hinted at the possibility of a white Christmas in some places this year, saying in its latest outlook that wintry showers “cannot be ruled out” over the festive period.
