'A true gentleman' - Tributes paid to dad-of-three who died during surprise trip to attend Liverpool match
Philip O’Sullivan has been remembered as ‘one of the kindest, soundest, and most genuine people one could ever meet'
Tributes have been paid to a father-of-three from Co Kerry who died suddenly last week during a trip to the UK.
Philip O’Sullivan, from Killarney, passed away in Newcastle on December 4 while on a surprise trip to see his beloved Liverpool FC play.
A native of Ashgrove, with roots in Ballyspillane, Philip is survived by his partner Karen and children Craig, Alice and Edison. One of Phillip's children has recently started college, while the other two are still at school.

Phillip, who worked for several years with Leane’s Tool Hire in Killarney, was a respected coach with local sports club Killarney Celtic FC, who were among those to pay tribute to the popular father-of-three.
"Phil was a much loved part of our coaching team in recent years coaching with Eugene Cosgrave at both Youths, Academy and Under age," the club wrote in a message shared on Facebook.
"A larger than life character both in his working life at Leanes Toolhire and with ourselves Phil will be a huge loss and sadly missed.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with his partner Karen his children Craig, Alice and Edison his wider family and friends. We are absolutely devastated and our sincere condolences go out to everyone who knew Phil. May he Rest in peace."
Phillip's friends have come together to set up a fundraiser to support his family, with the GoFundMe page's organiser Ian O’Connell describing him as ‘one of the kindest, soundest, and most genuine people one could ever meet'.
"The unexpected passing of Phil on December 4th which happened in England has left the community of Killarney and the village of Firies in mourning," Ian wrote.
"A dedicated family man, Phil leaves behind his heartbroken partner Karen and their three young children, Craig, Alice and Edison, facing an unimaginable loss. Phil was a remarkable character whose vibrant personality left lasting impression on everyone he encountered.
"His infectious good humour and willingness to engage in conversation made him a cherished employee at Leane's Tool Hire, where he served as the go to guy for customers.
"A passionate soccer enthusiast and loyal Liverpool fan, and a big part of Firies GAA club, he dedicated many years to Killarney Celtic, coaching at various levels with unwavering kindness and compassion. Philips smile, wit and genuine care for others will forever be remembered by all who knew him."
The GoFundMe page has raised over €61,000 so far which will help cover funeral expenses and reduce any financial burdens Phillip's family will face.
Phillip's funeral is due to be held at 10.30am this Saturday (December 14) at St. Mary's Cathedral in Killarney, with burial afterwards in Aghadoe Lawn Cemetery.
A number of Phillip's family and colleagues have paid tribute to the much-loved soccer fan in messages shared on RIP.ie.
One person wrote: "So shocked and saddened to hear the terrible news of Phil’s passing! He was one great guy, a smile a joke whenever we met! A very proud dad always! Heartfelt condolences to karen Craig Alice and Edison, his extended family and friends! May his gentle soul rest in peace x"
"Sincere condolences to Frank, Betty, Jennifer, Karen, Craig, Alice, Edison and extended families on the untimely passing of dear Philip a true gentleman loved the chat and the banter. Thought and prayers are with you all at this very sad time May his gentle soul Rest in heavenly peace fly high with the angels Philip," added another.
While a third said: "Sincere condolences to Phil’s immediate and extended families on his sad and very untimely passing. Thinking of all of you at this difficult time. Phil was just a lovely person, always smiling and a pleasure to meet. Phil touched the lives of many people and we are all the better for knowing him. His legacy will last for generations. May Phil’s gentle soul rest in peace."
