Katie Taylor vacates World title with Caroline Dubois crowned champion
Taylor has relinquished her WBC World Lightweight Championship.
Katie Taylor has vacated her WBC World Lightweight Championship, with interim titleholder Caroline Dubois being promoted to full champion.
Taylor had held the WBC Lightweight title since she beat Delfine Persoon in 2019 to become Undisputed Champion of the weight class.
In 2023, Taylor moved up a division to take on Chantelle Cameron for the Undisputed Light-Welterweight championship. She got the better of Cameron at the second attempt before defeating Amanda Serrano in November, with that fight also taking place in the Light-Welterweight division.

With Taylor having not fought at Lightweight in more than two years and with her future firmly in the 140 pound division, the 2012 Olympic champion has opted to vacate the title to Dubois, who has been calling for a bout with Katie since she won the interim title in August.
23-year-old Dubois, who is the sister of IBF Heavyweight Champion Daniel Dubois, will defend her title on her 24th Birthday next month against former world title challenger Jessica Camara in Sheffield.
“It is a great honour to be elevated to full WBC World Champion and to have WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman present me with the belt. It’s always been my dream to become world champion, and this is just the start of the journey for me. I look forward to defending my WBC World Title on January 11th in Sheffield," said Dubois.
As for Taylor, her fighting career looks set to continue into 2025, and with lucrative trilogy bouts against Chantelle Cameron and Amanda Serrano on the table, the Bray Bomber has plenty of options to pick from.
