A loving grandfather will be laid to rest this Saturday after he was killed in a horror multi-vehicle crash in Wexford on Wednesday.

Eddie Broaders, a healthcare worker in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene on the N11 road between Oylegate and Crossabeg at the Castlesow junction. Two cars and a truck were involved in the incident.

Two other people received medical treatment at the scene, but their injuries were believed to be non-life-threatening. A man in his 20s was arrested in connection with the collision but has since been released without charge.

A file will now be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions. Mr Broaders was well-loved in his community of Wexford town as he has been described as a “gentleman” and “a kind soul” who was “always joking and laughing”.

A colleague of his said: “Whenever he was working, you knew that there's going to be some craic. He always had a joke and a smile ready for both, his colleagues and the people we were working with.”

Another mourner wrote: “Wexford has lost a good soul. Every time I met him he was always joking and laughing. He will be missed greatly. Condolences to all the family.”

While a third commented: “A true and kind gentleman, always willing to help others, rest in peace Eddie, you will be missed greatly.”

The Wexford man is survived by his wife Caroline, his three children Warren, Jaslyn, and Kallum and his five grandchildren. A notice on RIP.ie reads: “Reposing at JJ Kearney's funeral home Selskar Street Y35EK80 on Saturday, November 30, from 2pm to 8pm and again on December 1st from 2pm to 8pm.

“Removal will take place from the funeral home on Monday morning 2nd December at 11.30am walking to Church of The Assumption Bride Street for funeral mass at 12 noon followed by burial in St Ibar's Cemetery Crosstown.”

Gardaí continue to investigate the collision. They are appealing for witnesses and road users with dash-cam footage from the N11 at Whitefort and its environs between 4.45pm and 5.45pm on November 27 to contact Enniscorthy Garda Station on (053) 9233534 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.

A Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) has been assigned to lead the investigation and a Garda Family Liaison Officer (FLO) is providing support to the family of the deceased. The scene on the N11 remained closed today as Garda Forensic Collision Investigators conducted a technical examination.
