Judd Trump sends UK Championship crowd delirious with genius pot
Judd Trump left snooker legend John Virgo astounded as he pulled off an audacious pot during a frame-winning clearance against Neil Robertson at the UK Championship
Judd Trump lit up his hard-fought victory over Neil Robertson at the UK Championship with an outrageous pot.
The world No.1 was well short of his brilliant best during his first-round clash against three-time UK champion Robertson, who led 3-1 and missed a key red to go 4-1 up in the best-of-11 clash. However, Trump eventually found his form over the second half of the match, reeling off five frames in a row to win 6-3.
At 3-3 with the seventh frame to go 4-3 up in the bag, Trump was closing in on a century break, only to find himself out of position with one red left. With the red near a cushion in the middle of the table, BBC commentator John Virgo suggested a "cross double".
However, Trump stunned Virgo and the audience by audaciously cutting the ball into the top corner pocket. An excited and surprised Virgo yelled: “He’s played the cut, he’s played the cut, surely not, surely not!”
But the ball did find the pocket, with the crowd at the York Barbican roaring their acclaim. Trump went on to make a 126 break, his highest of the match, before taking the final two frames of a match which failed to live up to expectations.
Neither player was happy with the conditions, with both calling the table “heavy” and “unplayable”. Asked in his post-match interview if they were the worst conditions in which he had played, Trump said: “I’ve played in some bad conditions, but that was close.
“It’s disappointing as it seems to be the bigger events. It was very heavy all the time. I’ve always struggled here because the tables are so heavy. Hopefully, they can change them. All the players have been struggling – hopefully they can do something about it.”

Robertson was equally scathing of the environment. He said: “That was as tough as I’d ever played on. It was as unplayable as it gets in professional conditions. Being such a tough sport anyway it can make either player look stupid.” Next, Trump will face another three-time UK champion in John Higgins, who demolished He Guoqiang 6-0 in his first round match.
