Darren Till weighs almost as much as Tyson Fury for fight with brother Tommy
With a little over eight weeks to go until the blockbuster clash between the two stars, Till - a former UFC fighter - has revealed his current weight
Former UFC welterweight title challenger Darren Till has revealed he currently weighs 253lbs ahead of his upcoming clash with Tommy Fury.
The fight - which was announced on Sunday - between the pair is scheduled to take place on January 18 at the Co-Op Live in Manchester. Fury hasn't fought since beating YouTuber KSI last year. His previous win came on points against YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul. As for Till, the Liverpudlian was released from the UFC following a defeat to Dricus du Plessis back in 2022. He did, however, take part in an exhibition boxing fight back in July, defeating Mohammad Mutie by technical knockout.
Speaking about the fight, Fury said: "It feels great to finally say that I am back! I have been out of the ring far too long. I've been getting itchy knuckles so I am thrilled to be able to announce my return, headlining a massive event in my hometown and in front of my fans. Till had a good UFC career but he's stepping into the boxing ring now, against a proper pro, and he will quickly realise that he is out of his depth and this is not the game for him. I plan on dealing with Till in conclusive fashion and then chasing even bigger fights in 2025."
Throughout his UFC career, Till competed at 170lbs and 185lbs. That said, his upcoming showdown with Fury will be an eight-round contest in the heavyweight division, according to The Stomping Ground’s Charlie Parsons. However, other reports suggest a 205lb catchweight bout.
Remarkably, the former MMA star confirmed in an interview with Ariel Helwani that he is currently weighing 253lbs - nearly as much as Tyson Fury 's weight for his clash with Oleksandr Usyk - as well as revealing that he plans to continue drinking alcohol throughout his preparation for the fight, after stating that he is not sure of the weight for the showdown himself.
“They said a weight and they asked me if I could get to it, so I said ‘yeah’, said Till. "I don’t know [the weight]. Yeah, I was p***ed [drunk] last night, I was f*****g blathered to be honest with you. No, [I am not going to stop drinking because] Tommy is that s*** that I don’t need to.”
In the press conference earlier this week, Till had threatened to kick Fury in the face if he was losing the fight. “At the end of the day, I can’t beat you, I’ll just kick you in the face in there,” Till said. “How about that? I’m a proper fighter, not a boxer. I don’t walk in a room like this and see boxing and go, ‘s***.’ I walk in, no one here is a threat to me. Not one person in this room, security, you, your dad are not a threat to me. I’m an MMA fighter, so if I want to kick you or elbow you in the face, I will, and no one can do anything about it.”
Fury then hit back: "Well that's not going to happen is it Darren. Because we ain't in the cage now, we're in theboxingring and you're going to find out that boxing is very different to MMA." However, Till continued: "Well it obviously is, how are you going to stop me? If I'm losing the fight, I'm going to kick you straight in the face. You won't know what's hit you."
