Gardaí in Cork have launched an investigation after an incident of alleged assault and false imprisonment on Sunday.

Officers in Douglas have appealed for any witnesses to come forward after the shocking assault took place at a residence in Maryborough Hill, Cork in the early hours of Sunday morning.

At around 2.30am, a male aged in his 20s was assaulted and forcibly removed from his home in Douglas and driven to Curraheen Park, Bishopstown, Cork, where the vehicle crashed and the injured party managed to make good his escape.

Gardaí attended the scene and the injured man was taken to Cork University Hospital to be treated for his non-life threatening injuries. Gardaí in Cork are appealing for witnesses following the incident, including those who may have dash cam footage.

A Garda spokesperson told the Irish Mirror: “Gardaí are appealing to any person who was travelling in Maryborough Hill, Douglas area between 2.30am and 3am or in the Curraheen Park Bishopstown area between 3.30am and 4am, on Sunday morning 17 November, or between both areas to contact investigating Gardaí.

“Additionally, road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí. Anyone with information is asked to contact Togher Garda Station on 021 494 7120, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.”
