Dublin stunned as Brian Fenton set to follow James McCarthy in stepping away
James McCarthy and Brian Fenton may not be the last players to depart Dessie Farrell's squad with a major rebuilding job on the cards for 2025.
Brian Fenton is set to follow James McCarthy by stepping away from inter-county football, according to reports this evening.
It may not be the last blow to hit Dessie Farrell’s squad either with speculation rife about the future of a number of top stars.
The plans of nine-time All-Ireland winners Stephen Cluxton and Michael Fitzsimons - currently lining out for Cuala in the Leinster Championship - have yet to be revealed.

While at least two more established, long serving star are believed to be weighing up their futures in sky blue.
An exodus could spark a major rebuilding job for Dessie Farrell's side, who lost out to Galway in this year's All-Ireland quarter-final, the first time they hadn't made the last four since 'the startled earwigs' defeat by Kerry in the 2009 All-Ireland quarter-final.
With the December 7 return to collective training date fast approaching, more announcements could be imminent.
Fenton (31) is a seven-time All-Ireland winner and a six time All Star, while he twice landed the highest individual honour in the game, the Footballer of the Year award.
The Raheny club man didn’t lose a Championship game for the first six years of his Dublin career, after winning his first Sam Maguire in 2015.
Fenton is widely regarded as one of Dublin greatest ever players and one of the best midfielders ever to play the game.
It leaves Farrell on the look out for a new midfield pairing for the 2025 season.
