Gardaí are investigating another gun attack on a house on the south side of Limerick city.

The shooting, one of a number of violent attacks in the area over the past month, occurred at Pike Avenue, Garryowen, last night.

A number of shots were discharged from a gun at the house, however no persons were injured.

A large area at the scene remained sealed off by gardai Friday, pending a forensic examination by garda ballistics experts.

"Gardaí were alerted to an incident where a firearm was discharged in the Garryowen area, Limerick, Thursday, 14th November 2024. The incident occurred at approximately 11pm at a domestic residence," said a garda spokeswoman.

"No injuries have been reported at this time. The investigation is ongoing,” she added.

Gardaí did not make an appeal for information as they are believed to be following a definite line of enquiry.

Gardaí were investigating if the gun attack is linked to several other shootings, pipe bomb and petrol bomb attacks on the south side of the city in recent weeks.

A violent feud between two rival criminal groups, which have strongholds in the Ballinacurra Weston and Southill areas, has escalated since October 12.

Armed Gardaí attached to the Dublin-based Emergency Response Unit (ERU) have been conducting regular checkpoints on routes in the vicinity of the flashpoint areas in Limerick.

The ERU was drafted in to Limerick to assist local armed and uniformed units to try to prevent further violence in the feud.

A number of people have been injured in several of the attacks.
