Bad Sisters star on 'ridiculous' moment they met Royal in fancy dress while singing the Irish national anthem
Sharon Horgan has opened up about the hilarious moment the cast of Apple TV's Bad Sisters met Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh, during the filming of season two
Bad Sisters' leading lady and brains behind the show, Sharon Horgan, has revealed a rather Royal encounter during the filming of the show's second season. The cast had the unexpected honour of meeting Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh, while decked out in fancy dress.
The gripping finale of season one saw Grace (played by Anne-Marie Duff) finally put an end to her tormentor husband John Paul (Claes Bang), with her sisters Eva (Horgan), Ursula (Eva Birthistle), Bibi (Sarah Greene), and Becka (Eve Hewson) banding together to hide the dark deed.
Fast forward two years, and Grace is basking in newfound joy with a different beau, but their shared secret threatens to resurface as Roger Muldoon (Michael Smiley) decides to invite his overly curious sister Angelica (Fiona Shaw) to stay.
With the first 10-episode run captivating audiences on Apple TV+, Horgan confessed that the stakes were high to keep fans enthralled with the upcoming season.
Yet, it wasn't all work and no play on set, as evidenced by Prince Edward's timely visit. Horgan, at the Bad Sister's season two sneak peek in London, let slip about a memorable karaoke scene they were shooting in episode five, though she kept mum on the details, reports the Mirror.
"We were filming that scene, we were in fancy dress. Sarah's dressed as a banana, I was... what was I, a lion?" she recounted, with another actor chiming in about her "vampy vampire" get-up.
"Anyway, we looked ridiculous," Horgan added with a laugh. "But that day Prince Edward was being given a tour of the studios where we were shooting and wanted to meet us."
The stars, it seems, weren't all spruced up in the usual formal attire expected for a Royal encounter, opting instead to stick with their on-set costumes.
"So, we all went out there in our banana suits and watched while he pretended to know who we were," Horgan recounted.
She threw in another fun tidbit: "We were also singing the Irish anthem! And then we found out he was outside and we all had our mics on, so we couldn't walk that back."
Grappling with the monarch's title, Hewson commented, "It was like when the Spice Girls met Prince Charles... or is he the King?" Promptly, Horgan corrected, "Yes King, King Charles."
"It was like that," Hewson continued. "We were very cheeky and he was very embarrassed."
The beloved Irish drama made a comeback today (Wednesday, November 13) with the first two episodes of season two leaving audiences on the edge of their seats.
As the show resumes, expect a mix of shocking developments and dark wit, but can the Garvey sisters' new shenanigans match the buzz of their initial outing?
Bad Sisters season two continues Wednesdays on Apple TV+.
