Kamala Harris' presidential campaign is almost certain to end in disappointment as Donald Trump is on track to regain his place in the White House.

The Republican candidate and convicted felon - who was said to be legally liable for sexually abusing E. Jean Carroll in 2023 - declared victory on Wednesday morning as results of the US presidential election were progressively revealed throughout Tuesday night.

But with his triumph comes a wave of shock as multiple Americans and celebrities had decided to support Kamala Harris, convinced the United States would welcome its first female president in the Oval Office.

Riverdale star Lili Reinhart notably took to X, otherwise known as Twitter, to express her sympathy for the women who accused the former The Apprentice star of sexual misconduct.

She wrote: "I cannot fathom the feeling of the women who came forward about their sexual assault at the hands of Trump. Seeing millions of people vote for their abuser. My heart absolutely breaks for these women. I believe you, and I am so sorry." And when a Donald Trump supporter encouraged her to "stay out of politics", she responded with an expletive, writing: "Suck my d**k."

Rapper Cardi B, who recently appeared at Kamala Harris' rally ahead of election day, was devastated on Instagram Live as she reacted to the results, before furiously confronting one of her followers who asked her to attend Donald Trump's inauguration.

"I swear to god I'm gonna f**k you up, get away from me! I'm sick of you! Burn your f**king hats motherf****r", she notably exclaimed. "I'm really sad. I swear to god I'm really sad. No matter what, I know that she's probably emotional right now. I know there's probably a lot going on in her mind and I know she's not listening to this, but she will eventually see it."

She added: "I just hope she knows no matter what happens tonight, millions of people are proud of her. Women around the world are proud of her. Women of colour are proud of her." Over in the UK, Countdown's Susie Dent wrote on X: "Word of the day is ‘recrudescence’ (17th century): the return of something terrible after a time of reprieve." Carol Vorderman retweeted the post.

Over on X, however, Elon Musk was pleased to see Donald Trump win the election as he shared a snap on his own account. In the post, the CEO of Tesla Motors can be seen sharing a discussion with the future president as he penned in his caption, along with a fire emoji: "The future is gonna be so." The businessman was attending Donald Trump's election party in Mar-a-Lago, Florida.

With only a handful of votes needed for him to be declared the next president of the United States, Donald Trump declared victory in a speech aired live from Washington DC. "We're going to help our country heal", he notably said, adding: "This is a magnificent victory for the American people, that will allow us to make America great again."
