'Crisis averted' - Gardai hail

Two members of An Garda Siochana have been praised after they helped save a young couple's wedding day by coming to the rescue of a stranded florist.

Garda Carton and Garda O’Dowd were out on patrol around Dún Laoghaire on Monday morning when they came across a 'frazzled' woman 'waving to grab their attention'.

When they stopped to investigate, the two gardai learned that the woman, Roisín, was a florist who was on her way to Lady Chapel in Maynooth, Co Kildare, to set up for a wedding with the fresh flowers that had arrived into the store overnight.

However, while Roisín was en route to the church, her van broke down leaving her stranded on the side of the road.

Waiting for roadside assistance to come to her aid would mean Roisín wouldn’t arrive at the church in time to get the flowers set up for the ceremony, so Garda Carton and Garda O’Dowd stepped into gear.

The duo got all the flowers in buckets into the Garda van and got Roisín to Lady Chapel 'in the nick of time'.

Garda Carton and Garda O’Dowd's good deed was shared on the Garda Facebook page, along with a message for the happy couple tying the knot.

"Crisis averted! We hope that Lara and Seamus have a beautiful day today and we wish them a very happy marriage in the years ahead," they wrote alongside a picture of the two garda members posing outside the church with a relieved Roisín.

Many people were quick to praise Garda Carton and Garda O’Dowd for their kind gesture, which was hailed as "community policing at its best".

"Beautiful they helped out and in the knick of time. Thank you for being the guardians a couple didn't know they needed," one person commented on the Facebook post.

"Now that's community policing at its best, thank you gents for your service to our beautiful country. It's policing like this that makes our police force one of the best in the world," added another.

"Brilliant, some story for that happy couple to tell their children, grandchildren in time to come, Well done Garda, that's what makes this world a better place, god knows we need nice things now more than ever," said a third person.

While a fourth said: "Ahh lads ye are amazing I wish more people appreciated the great work our Garda do for our community and surrounding areas ye are simply amazing."
