Storm Ashley: Flight chaos as Ireland's preparations for Euro 2025 play-off disrupted
Several England-based players had their Sunday evening and Monday morning flights into Dublin cancelled.
Ireland manager Eileen Gleeson’s preparations for the upcoming Euro 2025 play-off first round against Georgia have been rained on by Storm Ashley.
Several English-based stars have been delayed in their efforts to get into Dublin, with the violent storm causing massive disruptions to flight schedules.
Airlines were forced to cancel dozens of flights into the capital - while players that did make it into the squad’s Castleknock Hotel camp spoke of bumpy landings and go-arounds - the term used to describe an aborted landing attempt.

Gleeson has named a 26-strong squad for the play-off, which kicks off with a first-leg in Tbilisi on Friday and a return in Tallaght Stadium next Tuesday.

The Girls in Green are overwhelming favourites to progress to November’s deciders, where they would face the winners of Slovakia and Wales.
Their previous meetings with Georgia ended in 11-0 (home) and 9-0 (away) wins, en-route to the historic qualification for the 2023 World Cup.
An FAI spokesperson could not immediately confirm the number of players affected by the storm chaos.
