A number of GAA fans have called for a quick implementation of the new football rules after watching the Dublin Senior Football Championship final on Sunday afternoon.

Cuala made a slice of history as they dethroned four-in-a-row chasing Kilmacud Crokes to win their first-ever senior title.

Played in stormy conditions, the game turned into a thrilling one, with the Dalkey outfit forced to dig deep for victory. Star forward Con O'Callaghan was shown a red card just seconds after Kilmacud Crokes scored a goal to level affairs deep into the second half.

However, before the late drama, it was a relatively drab affair. Both sides packed their defences, which caused a lot of lateral play and slow attacks.

And during a weekend that showcased four trial games played in Croke Park under the proposed new football rules, some fans took to social media to call for a quick implementation of the changes.

"Dublin county final demonstrating why the new rules are badly needed. What a snooze fest," said one social media user.

"This Dublin senior football final is a great advertisement for the proposed new rules," said another.

However, the thrilling finale saw other fans rave about the game and dismiss the new rules.

"Hope the FRC were watching and throw their 204-page booklet in Liffey," said one social media user.

"There’s not that much wrong with football as it is, is there?" added another.

The new rules received mixed reviews from fans and players. The 3 v 3 rule has been cited as the most important rule change by members of the Football Review Committee and looks set to pass, while the new kick-out rule and scoring system have caused great debate. Rules will go before the Central Council and a Special Congress later this year to see if they will be voted in for 2025.
