Roy Keane has opened fire at six England players after they failed to prevent Greece's opener during their shock loss.

The Three Lions suffered a first ever defeat to the Greeks as they conceded a stoppage time goal at Wembley. Vangelis Pavlidis was on hand to net a brace but both his second-half strikes owed to some poor defending from the hosts.

Pavlidis found himself with the ball at his feet in the England box whilst the game was still goalless. He was surrounded by Trent Alexander-Arnold, John Stones, Cole Palmer and Declan Rice, with more on the cover, but none of them put a foot in or attempted a tackle as the Greek star was able to shift the ball onto his right and finish past Jordan Pickford.

Keane was left stunned at the defending, claiming you would halt a training session if players acted like that. The Irishman then went on to lament England's reaction, questioning why they needed to go behind before they changed their way of playing.

He said on ITV : "How can this happen? Five or six England players around him, brilliant from the striker, lovely finish, but my goodness someone's got to put a tackle in. If that happened in training you'd stop the session and say, 'are you taking this seriously?'

"The words over the last two months with England - freedom and style and attacking players, freedom is the new buzz word, the new garlic bread! But you still have to do the basics of football. I go back to it in terms of defending properly, and urgency, England didn't seem that urgent.

"Why do England only have urgency when they're 1-0 down?"

England's defence also struggled to deal with a ball into the box before Greece scored their winner, four minutes into stoppage time. Rico Lewis struggled to clear and was surrounded by Stones and Levi Colwill - but again they couldn't prevent Pavlidis scoring as he ran over to celebrate with the jubilant away fans.

The match winner paid tribute to George Baldock after his sudden passing: "It was a really special game for us because of George and of course we gave everything for him and for his family. We just said that we have to play for him. It doesn't matter the score today, we want to play for him and we give everything for him."
