One year before their bombshell split, Molly-Mae Hague was convinced Tommy Fury had been unfaithful, completely unaware of his own plans for their relationship.

After meeting in the Love Island villa back in 2019 and welcoming a daughter into the world, the boxer, 25, was ready to commit to Molly-Mae Hague and planned a stunning proposal for his other half in Ibiza.

But when his shifty behaviour led her to believe he was "messaging another girl", Tommy Fury's elaborate proposal was on the brink of ruin, as he explained in an extract from his new memoir.

However, the surprise was already off to a rocky start as Tommy also confessed that surprising Molly-Mae was a difficult task. Tommy's plan began when he invented an exclusive, luxury party, hosted by fashion company Net-a-Porter and, supposedly, full of big showbiz names.

Molly-Mae's manager Fran was on board with Tommy's plan as she contacted Molly-Mae, letting her know she and Tommy were on the guest list and expected to attend the event. Tommy went the extra mile to make everything believable as he even penned a note welcoming the couple in their hotel, signing it off as a representative from Net-a-Porter.

The hunk then went on with his plan and, once the pair were ready to leave their hotel, a car came to pick them up. And the driver was also taking part in the deception.

Unfortunately, things quickly took a turn: "In the car, Molly asked if she could have a look at the pictures we had taken on my phone. I immediately panicked because if she went on to my camera roll, she would see photos I had just been sent of the setting of our proposal."

Tommy wrote: "I made a lame excuse about being in the middle of a texting debate with my dad about a fight contract." But due to his antsy behaviour, Molly-Mae had begun to believe he had been messaging another woman behind her back and an argument ensued.

"She thought I might be messaging another girl. I was fuming. I couldn't believe she would think that, but I also reminded myself that I was acting shifty, so it was fair enough. Ten minutes before I was due to propose, we were in the middle of this blazing row."

The driver, on the other hand, continued with his mission and the pair wound up on a cliff top at the back of their hotel, where Tommy eventually dropped to one knee. But by jumping out of the car, shutting the door to stop Molly-Mae from following him, Tommy had made things worse as his tearful partner thought he had abandoned her.

This comes months after Molly-Mae announced she and Tommy had gone their separate ways in an explosive statement. At the time it was reported it was because Tommy had cheated – but in his first interview since the split, he has denied this was the case.

Tommy has since expressed his intentions to set the record straight ahead of his autobiography – which references the separation – coming out this week. He said: “All the allegations that were made of me recently are completely false. The truth will come out in time and when it does, I think a lot of people might regret their actions and unkind words. The whole world will I reckon.”
