Former Dublin minor star set for Gaelic football return after six-year AFL stint
He made 13 appearances for the Lions in the AFL but had injury issues and did not feature in their championship-winning campaign this season
Former Dublin minor star James Madden is set for a return to Gaelic football after ending his six-year stint in the Australian Football League.
The Brisbane Lions confirmed on Friday that Madden, 24, had informed the club this week of his decision to return home.
Madden signed for the AFL side in 2018 after impressing at the European Combine in Dublin the previous year, breaking the record for the 20-metre sprint.

He made 13 appearances for the Lions in the AFL but had injury issues and did not feature in their championship-winning campaign this season.
Lions' General Manager Danny Daly said: “Jimmy has played a really key role for us for a number of years coming in and out of the senior side but we respect his decision to return to Ireland and wish him all the best with his pursuits in Gaelic footy."
Madden represented Dublin minors in 2016 and 2017, winning the Leinster title in 2017.
He was later on the Dublin U20 team that lost the 2018 Leinster final to Kildare.
Before his move to Australia, he had broken into the Ballyboden senior team.
The speedster last lined out for Boden in January 2020 in an All-Ireland club semi-final after returning home for Christmas.
