A clip of a young Arsenal mascot giving grief to Tottenham 's prior to the North London derby has gone viral.

The brief clip, which was shown live on Sky Sports, showed some of the home mascots slapping hands with Arsenal players on their way back through the tunnel ahead of the game.

A young Arsenal mascot could then be seen entering the shot and playfully shoved one of the Tottenham supporting children before talking some smack ahead of the match.

Arsenal superfan Piers Morgan quickly picked up on the clip and shared it to his X account along with a number of laughing emojis. He posted: "Even our mascots are harder than Tottenham’s…"

The drama continued on the pitch in a frantic opening 45 minutes. Gabriel Martinelli spurned a golden chance to give Arsenal the lead when he found himself through on goal, while William Saliba was booked early on for delaying a restart.

He was criticised by former Gunners defender Matthew Upson, who was covering the game for BBC Radio 5 Live.

Upson said of the chance: "Super play, Leandro Trossard was different class. Gabriel Martinelli just didn't make the most of the situation.

"It was a great opportunity, coming inside on his right foot, really tame effort straight at Guglielmo Vicario. Simple save. Martinelli executed it really poorly."

Arsenal headed into the match without the suspended Declan Rice and captain Martin Odegaard, with the latter hurting himself while on international duty with Norway. But Mikel Arteta was refusing to dwell on that in the build-up to the match, stressing that injuries were an opportunity for others in the squad to step up.

He said: "It is an opportunity. During the season you will pick up injuries. We have to adapt and the team needs to show the resilience and depth and hunger to overcome such issues."
