A man was arrested earlier this week as part of an ongoing investigation into the supply of counterfeit mobile devices, a probe titled Operation Shrike.

On Wednesday, September 11, members of the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation arrested a man aged in his 40s in connection with the crime.

Investigators estimate that the phone company involved has been defrauded out of approximately €10 million to date.

Up to now, 14 bank accounts have been frozen, with more than €143,245 in cash seized, as part of the probe.

A spokesperson for An Garda Siochana told The Irish Mirror: "The man, aged in his 40s, is currently detained under the provisions of Section 50 Criminal Justice Act 2007, at a Garda Station in Dublin.

"Investigations are ongoing."
