A teenager has been arrested in connection with a Dublin hit and run that saw a man in his 40s killed.

On Wednesday, July 17, Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to a collision involving a car and a pedestrian on the coast road in Baldoyle just before 1am.

The pedestrian, a male aged in his 40s who was out walking on the coast road in the early hours of that morning, was fatally injured. The car involved in the collision failed to remain at the scene.

Officers believed that two men - a driver and a passenger, fled the vehicle after they struck the man while trying to evade Gardaí that night.

It is understood there had been a prior interaction between Gardaí and the vehicle - but the car escaped officers before the shocking collision took place.

Now, on Monday, September 9, almost two months after the fatal collision, Gardaí have arrested a man aged in his late teens in connection with the collision.

A spokesperson for Gardaí told the Irish Mirror that investigations into the collision are ongoing

The Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí have arrested a man as part of the investigation into the fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the coast road in Baldoyle, Dublin 13 in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

“The man (aged in his late teens) is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda station in Dublin. Investigations are ongoing.”
