Glasgow Rangers are in the race to sign out-of-contract Ireland full-back Cyrus Christie.

The Scottish Premiership side are vying with four Championship clubs to snap up the 31-year-old, whose spell at Hull City came to an end during the summer.

Christie, who has been capped 30 times for Ireland, is also on the radar of Championship outfits Preston North End, Coventry City, Millwall and Plymouth, according to reports in England.

He can sign outside of the transfer window, which closed on August 30, because of his contractual situation.

Hull made the decision at the end of last season that they would not renew his contract, despite Christie playing 28 times in the league for the Tigers last season.

Almost half of those appearances, 13, were as a starter.

Christie has played more than 460 games in senior football between stints at Coventry, Derby, Middlesbrough, Fulham and Hull, and loan spells at Nuneaton Town, Hinckley United, Nottingham Forest and Swansea.

He made his senior Ireland debut in a 4-1 win against the USA in November 2014 and has scored twice for the Boys in Green.

If he were to move to Rangers, he would join a very small band of Irish players to do so, including Cobh-born goalkeeper Alan Smith, current Dundalk manager Jon Daly and former Ireland Under-21 defender Rob Kiernan.
