Roy Keane slams FAI hierarchy

Roy Keane slammed the FAI hierarchy as he previewed the Republic of Ireland's clash with England on Saturday evening.

The former Boys in Green captain, who worked as Martin O'Neill's assistant Ireland manager from 2013 to 2018, was speaking about the lack of quality in the current squad when he had a pop at those in charge at the association.

He said: “It’s huge. Listen, the last two years, we know the problems with a lack of quality.

“There’s a lot of good people at the FAI but the people who are making the decisions probably couldn’t organise a p*** up in a brewery. Honestly.”

And the difference in quality between Ireland and England was clearly visible as the action got under way.

It took England just 11 minutes to find the back of the net as Declan Rice of all people blasted home before another former Ireland youth player in Jack Grealish doubled the visitors' lead 15 minutes later.
