Daycare worker lists 'worst names' on class register she deems 'tragic' for children
A woman has taken to social media to share the 'worst children's' names' she spotted on her sister's classroom wall – as others share their thoughts on the monikers
As we enter September, children across Ireland are making their return to school for another academic year of learning.
But for some, the 'back to school' month marks their start in education. When picking up her sister from daycare, a woman couldn't help but notice the list of newcomers on the classroom wall, prompting her to share the "worst names" amongst them.
Taking to Reddit's tragedeigh thread, the term used to "describe a name deliberately misspelled or completely made up to appear more unique than it actually is", a user said: "They had a list of the babies’ names on the wall. Here were the names deemed most tragic/strange:
- Jrue
- Indie
- Keelin
- Thaddeus
- Khaleesi
- Truth
- Brison
- Ryker
- Renwikk
- Fallon
Commenting on the monikers, an elementary teacher confirmed Fallon is "moving up the ranks of popularity". Another user added: "Fallon was a character on Dynasty." A third user said: "I know one, she’s in her late 50s and named after her great-grandmother."
While another user expressed their concern for the child called Thaddeus, saying: "Thaddeus is a normal, albeit old school and easily made fun of, name."

One user added: "It’s my grandpa’s name, although he went by Tad. His name was actually Tadeusz (Polish) but the nuns at school gave him and his brothers names English (American) names. It’s funny how names you’ve never seen before can seem like tragedeighs, and how you can grow up with a tragedeigh and not realise it."
Sharing their thoughts, another user added: "Indie, Keelin, Thaddeus, and Fallon are all legitimate names with legitimate spelling. Not tragedeighs. Truth is a little bit of an eccentric name but not misspelled.
"Brison does appear to be a tragedeigh because the name is typically Bryson. Ryker has been around for quite a long time, although recently has surged in popularity. Khaleesi is from ASOIAF (A Song of Ice and Fire - Game of Thrones) and is spelt correctly for that genre but it is a tragic name for a child. Renwikk and Jrue seem to be the only actual tragedeighs on this list."
