The two dogs involved in a mauling attack on a defenceless woman are set to be destroyed.

Sources say a decision has been made to destroy the two bulldogs following Thursday’s horror attack in Dun Laoghaire, Co Dublin.

A woman in her 50s suffered serious injuries when she was attacked by two dogs owned by a close relative.

The local dog warden took custody of the dogs following the attack and gardaí are investigating the incident. The woman is receiving treatment in St Vincent’s Hospital in south Dublin.

A Garda spokesperson said that investigations into the attack are ongoing.

The spokesperson told the Irish Mirror: “Gardaí were alerted by emergency services to an incident at a residence in Dún Laoghaire, County Dublin this afternoon, Thursday 5th September 2024.

“A woman was attacked by a number of dogs. She has been taken to St. Vincent's Hospital for treatment of her injuries, which are understood to be serious.

“The dogs are currently in the custody of the Dog Warden. Investigations are ongoing.”
