Formula 1 legend Damon Hill legend emphatically rolled his eyes after Red Bull chief Helmut Marko appeared to raise questions about the front wing of McLaren and Mercedes cars.

Red Bull suffered a disappointing weekend in Monza as Max Verstappena and Sergio Perez could only manage seventh and eighth in qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix, before recording finishes of sixth and eighth on race day.

That has seen the McLarens of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri narrow the gap in the constructors championship to just eight points. Norris still trails Verstappen by 62 points in the drivers' standings however.

Red Bull's struggles proved frustrating to Marko, who did not want to see a repeat of the situation in the race.

Talking to ORF, Marko said: "If only we knew the reasons. In Q2 we were in second place, in Q3 both laps were not good. What happened there is really a mystery.

"It can only have been due to the tyre situation, the temperature of the tires, but also the external circumstances. We can only hope that the situation does not arise again in the race."

Clearly frustrated, Marko implied that his team's opponents needed investigation. He added: "The front wing of McLaren and Mercedes must be analysed."

When made aware of Marko's response, it's safe to say Hill appeared exasperated. The 63-year-old quoted a post on X that relayed the Red Bull chief's comments and responded: "Uh oh. Here we go."

World Champion Verstappen was also left frustrated with his vehicle's change in performance throughtout qualifying. The Dutchman labelled the car's output as 'bizarre'.

"In Q3, somehow it didn't turn. We had two new sets of tyres and suddenly I had a lot of understeer," he told Viaplay. "The car just wasn't turning anywhere anymore in Turns 1, 4, 6 and 7. I just couldn't get the car turning anymore.

"It's been going on all the time. It's over and understeer, both actually a little bit. It's very tricky. I was almost four-tenths slower than my run in Q2. It's bizarre how that's possible. The balance was suddenly not there at all.

"In Q2 it was still reasonable but it felt a little better, but in Q3 there was suddenly a lot of understeer and nothing worked anymore."
